Academic Advising Resources for Spring 2025 Registration

Dear Students,

I am writing to make you aware of some resources we have for Academic Advising as you plan your courses.  Registration will take place the week of November 18, 2024.

Registration Memo

First and most importantly, please be sure to read the Registration Memo and other information on the Registration and Course Information page.  The answers to many of your questions are here.

Advising Workshop PowerPoints

UM Degree

The law school has access to UM Degree, the University’s degree-auditing platform. UM Degree will allow you to track your progress toward your JD and show your outstanding requirements as well as options that fulfill those requirements.

If you declare interest in pursuing the Advocacy, Business, Health, or Tax Certificates by completing the Certificate Declaration Form, it can track your progress toward certificate requirements as well.

Please note that UM Degree is not an official record of your degree or certificate progress, but rather a tool for you to use for your planning purposes.  The Law Registrar’s Office and certificate advisor will determine whether you have met your degree and certificate requirements, so please contact the Law Registrar or certificate advisor with any questions.

Academic Advising Website

We have updated the Academic Advising website with additional helpful resources for you as you plan your course schedule.

The Academic Advising Worksheets are one of the most helpful advising tools on the Academic Advising website.  It can help you plan next semester’s courses and begin planning for future semesters, as well.

Individual Advising

• If you are interested in pursuing a certificate in Advocacy, Business, Health, or Tax Law, ask to meet with the Certificate Director make sure you are on track for the certificate.
• Students should also consider seeking academic advising from faculty who teach, write, or have practiced in areas of law of interest to you.
• You may also reach out to the professor who advised you during your 1L year.
• Dean Aden, Dean Wilson, Dean O’Bryant, and Professor Fung are also available for individual advising for students who want to discuss their course selections or have other questions.
• Students on Academic Probation or Warning will be assigned an advisor and must have their schedules approved by their assigned academic advisor before registration.

Complete the relevant Academic Advising Worksheet and email it to your advisor before any advising meeting.
