2L Nominations for Honor Council Elections Reopened – Modified Elections Timeline
Dear Memphis Law 2Ls,
Because the recent 2L nominees to the 2025/2026 Honor Council either declined their nomination or were found to be ineligible based on factors listed in Honor Code Provision 21.7(a)(2), the nomination period has temporarily reopened. Please see below for a modified election process to select one current 2L who will serve as a Student Justice during their 3L year.
I encourage you to take the time to nominate a classmate who you would trust to adjudicate alleged Honor Code violations in a fair and confidential manner.
*Note that the current 1L Honor Council election process is proceeding according to the original schedule. This modified schedule only applies to the Class of 2026*
Nomination Period: April 8, 5:00 PM to April 11, 5:00 PM
- The ballot shall be determined by anonymous nominations from the 2L class.
- 2L students will list the full name and university email of their fellow 2L nominee on a ballot card and place the card in the ballot box located in the student lounge.
Vetting Process: April 12–April 15
- Once nominations are submitted and the nomination period ends, student nominees will be invited by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs/Registrar’s Office to either accept or decline their nomination.
- You must respond in a timely manner so that the vetting process can proceed.
- The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs/Registrar’s Office will then vet each student who accepts their nomination by determining whether a nominee is eligible based on factors listed in Honor Code Provision 21.7(a)(2).
- Any nominee found to be ineligible will be removed from the nomination list.
- Nominees will be notified of their eligibility to be placed on the ballot once the vetting process is complete.
Statement of Interest and Acknowledgement of Election Rules Due: April 16 by 5:00 PM
- Each nominee who wishes to proceed with their name on the ballot must write a brief Statement of Interest (three to four sentences) in support of their nomination and email it to nathan.daniels@memphis.edu no later than Wednesday, April 16 at 5:00 PM.
- In lieu of a mandatory meeting, Nathan will send all nominees an Acknowledgement Form detailing election rules that must be signed and returned along with the Statement of Interest.
- Failure to submit a Statement of Interest and Acknowledgement Form by the deadline will result in removal of the nominee’s name from the ballot unless the nominee communicates with Nathan and works out alternative arrangements.
Elections: April 16, 8:00 PM to April 19, 8:00 PM
- The final list of nominees will be placed on the ballot on Tiger Zone along with their Statement of Interest.
- Remember: Campaigning for a position on Honor Council is NOT allowed!
- Any instances of a nominee asking other students to vote for them via GroupMe, text, social media, or word of mouth will result in immediate disqualification.
- Current 2Ls will cast one (1) vote.
- The nominee from the current 2L class who receives the most votes will serve as a Student Justice during their 3L year.
Election Announcements: April 21
- Election results will be announced via On Legal Grounds on Monday, April 21.
Please be sure to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Nathan L. Daniels
