U.S. Air Force JAG Opportunities
Good afternoon from the Pentagon! We currently have multiple Air Force JAG Corps opportunities open for applications, and wanted to ensure your offices had full information for any interested students. If you have already received some of this information from your base legal office or alumni recruiting contacts, I hope you’ll pardon the double tap. Please feel free to forward any of this on to interested students, and to let me know if you have any questions!
- Paid Summer Internships – Deadline 16 November. Our 1L and 2L paid summer internships are open for applications on USAJobs from 2-16 November. The 1L posting is here, and the 2L posting here. Internships are available at installation legal offices nationwide (see post) and at certain HQ offices in DC. If you have a 2L who has been selected for an unpaid summer externship, they remain eligible to apply for the paid internship.
- For 3Ls and Graduates – Direct Appointment, Deadline 10 January. Applications are open for our Direct Appointment Program’s February selection board. This is the pathway for 3Ls and graduated, practicing attorneys to apply to commission as full-time active duty Judge Advocates. The online application portal is here, and applications are due 10 January, with Staff Judge Advocate interviews to be complete by 1 February.
- For 1Ls and 2Ls – Law School AFROTC Programs, Deadline 10 January. 1Ls and 2Ls interested in participating in our law school AFROTC programs may also apply by 10 January to the Graduate Law Program (1Ls) and the One Year College Program (2Ls). If selected, candidates will contract and guarantee their JAG commission early in their law school careers, contingent on completing a condensed AFROTC program and all graduation and licensing requirements. Students also receive a $450 (2L)/$500 (3L) per month stipend in the program. The online application portal is here, and applications are due 10 January, with Staff Judge Advocate interviews to be complete by 1 February.
- For 1Ls – Summer Externship Applications in January. We will have a final round of summer applications for 1L unpaid summer externships in January. Externships offer the same substantive work experience as internships, are available at the same locations, and are viewed just as highly by JAG Corps selection boards. We’ll distribute advertisements for these summer externships as we get closer to January!
As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions about the Air Force JAG Corps, or to forward my contact information on to any students who would like to get in touch!
