UT Public Interest Internship Open for Applications
The Institute for Public Service at the University of Tennessee is again recruiting for the Public Service Internship program, with internships for seniors and graduate students with a demonstrated interest in local government careers. Below is the information they provided:
The Public Service Internship Program is primarily intended for seniors and graduate students from a wide range of public service-oriented disciplines, and an interest in careers in local government service. We seek a culturally, experientially, academically, and geographically diverse cohort of applicants from disciplines such as public policy, public administration, business administration, information studies, computer science, industrial and process engineering, journalism, sustainability, public health, and law. Students representing other disciplines are also encouraged to apply.
The application deadline for the spring semester is October 23, 2020. Students should be available for and interested in a 10-12 week paid placement, with up to 20 hours per week, during the January to June period. Interns are matched with sponsored endowments and compensated at a rate of $12 per hour. Students submit a resume and letter of interest through faculty at their campus or to the contact below. The letter of interest should describe the student’s professional interests, including interest in a local government career and area of the state desired for the internship. The resume should include academic degrees, overall GPA and anticipated graduation schedules of the student, along with 3 references.
The program is open to Tennessee students and to students living and attending school outside of Tennessee. IPS is committed to introducing individuals from groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in public service in Tennessee. Women and people of color are encouraged to apply for these internships.
Here are the Internship Program Guidelines.
These internships are filled through a competitive process, and the application process, faculty contacts and additional program materials will be available after October 13 at the IPS website at http://www.ips.tennessee.edu/public-service-internships. I am also available to respond to questions from you and from interested students.
