Street Law Initial Meeting – August 28 at 12:00 PM

Street Law is excited to host its initial meeting on Thursday, August 28th, from 12:00 – 1:00 PM in Room 326. Lunch will be provided!

At this meeting, we’ll introduce new and returning members to the mission of Street Law and walk through how you can sign up for upcoming teaching sessions. We’ll also answer questions about how the program works and how you can get involved.

What is Street Law?

Street Law is a nonprofit organization that began in 1972 at Georgetown University. Its mission is to teach people, especially youth, about the law, democracy, and human rights in an engaging and accessible way. Since its founding, Street Law has grown into chapters across all 50 states and 40 countries worldwide and includes multiple law schools.

The Memphis Law chapter currently partners with University Middle School to teach two classes per week, and we will likely be expanding to another middle school in the coming weeks. Law students, faculty members, and practitioners can sign up to teach lessons on law-related topics of interest. The goal is to bridge the gap between youth and the legal system, while inspiring students toward future legal careers.

Why Get Involved?

Street Law offers law students the opportunity to:

  • Teach meaningful lessons in the community.

  • Strengthen public speaking and leadership skills.

  • Build connections with local students and schools.

  • Gain real-world teaching experience in a supportive setting.

  • Earn pro bono hours — up to 2 credit hours per session.

Most importantly, the level of commitment is completely up to you. Whether you want to lead sessions regularly or participate occasionally, your involvement makes a difference.

We encourage all Memphis Law students to attend and learn more about how you can get involved.
