**PAID NAACP SUMMER FELLOWSHIP**

The NAACP is accepting applications for its Law Fellow Program in Baltimore, Maryland from May 30, 2016-August 5, 2016. Selected participants will be awarded a stipend of $6,000.

This program provide law students with first-hand exposure to civil rights advocacy and many other facets of the legal profession. Through working with the Legal Department and networking with lawyers in many different legal arenas, summer Law Fellows see the multiple roles lawyers play in shaping American society.

Those selected for the program will:

  • Work with civil rights attorneys on relevant issues concerning economic justice, education, housing, voting rights and environmental justice
  • Perform case investigation and assist with emerging litigation and administrative complaints
  • Attend the NAACP National Convention and Continuing Legal Education Seminar in Cincinnati, Ohio
  • Examine and evaluate citizen complaints of civil rights violations
  • Interact with civil rights leaders and attorneys

 

The ideal candidate for this position will possess many, if not all, of the following professional qualifications, competencies and personal qualities:

 

  • Ability to work full time for 37.5 hours per week from May 30, 2016 to August 5, 2016
  • Must have, at minimum, completed the first year of law school
  • Interest in civil rights law and commitment to public interest law
  • Demonstrated commitment to the NAACP’s mission
  • Strong academic credentials
