NEW COURSES ADDED TO FALL 2021 SCHEDULE
Good news! Two courses have been added to the Fall 2021 schedule. The course descriptions and details are below.
Advanced Legal Research
Course 730
3-hour simulation course
This course reinforces the research skills taught in Legal Methods, while greatly expanding the depth and scope of those skills. It also introduces major areas of research not covered in the first year, such as federal and state administrative law and legislative history, municipal ordinances, non-legal research, and specialized research. The course will focus on research strategy and analysis of legal problems within the context of law practice and will provide in-depth coverage of legal materials, both print and online. Students will be required to conduct scenario-based research projects and produce relevant documents and research logs.
- Advanced Legal Research will have an asynchronous online component in addition to the classroom meeting on Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:00-10:50.
- This course is a simulation course and counts towards satisfying the Experiential Learning Requirement. (The Experiential Learning Requirement requires all students to earn 6 credits in experiential learning courses, which include simulation courses, clinics, and externships. Students must complete at least one clinic or externship.)
Education & Civil Rights – Writing
Course 495
1-hour research/advanced writing course
Students in Education & Civil Rights – Writing will enroll in an additional hour of coursework in conjunction with enrollment in the doctrinal Education & Civil Rights course. The additional coursework will involve conceiving and completing a substantial writing project on a topic connected to the subject matter in the doctrinal course and students in the writing course will present their project toward the end of the semester.
- Education & Civil Rights – Writing will be limited to four students.
- The meeting time and place will be coordinated between students enrolled and Prof. Kiel prior to the start of next semester.
- Education & Civil Rights – Writing does satisfy the Advanced Writing requirement. However, a student cannot enroll in only Education & Civil Rights – Writing. Education & Civil Rights – Writing must be paired with the doctrinal Education & Civil Rights course.
