National Trial Team seeking Volunteer Witnesses (1/14 deadline)
The UofM National Trial Team is required to provide 4 volunteer witnesses for its virtual regional competition in February. Volunteer witnesses will get to experience mock trial at the highest level. This can be very helpful in preparing for the in-school mock trial competition or trial advocacy classes. For 1Ls and 2Ls, it would be a great way to find out more about our mock trial team before trying out next year. Each volunteer must commit to being available for the following competition rounds, including a 15-minute witness prep period before each round:
- Prelim Round 1 – Friday, February 18 at 2:00 pm Central
- Prelim Round 2 – Saturday, February 19 at 9:00 am Central
- Prelim Round 3 – Saturday, February 19 at 2:00 pm Central
- Semifinal Rounds (8 teams = 4 trials) – Sunday, February 20 at 9:00 am Central (only if UofM team advances)
- Final Rounds (4 teams = 2 trials) – Sunday, February 20, at 2:00 pm Central (only if UofM team advances)
Any volunteer witnesses would be welcome to join us for any of our practice trials on Zoom, each Saturday leading up to competition, and especially for our dress rehearsals on Zoom the weekend before competition (2/11 & 2/12).
If you have any questions or want to volunteer, please contact one of the team members (Zach Monroe, Danielle Husseini, Chris Jones, Melba Martin, or Diana Pope) or Coach Brigid Welsh (Brigid.Welsh@memphis.edu). The team must submit the names and contact information for volunteer witnesses by Friday, January 14th.
