ML – Memphis Law Magazine Issue #13
We’re proud to bring you issue #13 of our award-winning law school magazine. As with many projects throughout the pandemic, this issue has taken longer to come to fruition than normal. But the accomplishments of our faculty, students, and alumni over the past year were too great to not share. We hope you’ll enjoy reading about all of them!
Within this issue, you can read our feature story about a unique partnership between the law school, attorneys from Shelby County, the City of Memphis, and local partner organizations that established the Eviction Settlement Program as a way to combat the thousands of eviction filings waiting to be heard in court after eviction moratoriums expired.
Our alumni profile puts the spotlight on Luke Pruett (JD ’15), a young alumnus helping Memphis find visionary leaders to join the ranks of impactful citizens helping lead the city into the future.
This issue also features a very special piece on Kenneth Maurice Cox, one of the law school’s first Black graduates. In this piece, you’ll read more about his life, career, and untimely passing, as well as the legacy he left behind. There is also a spotlight feature on our long-standing student-run Alternative Spring Break program, which persevered despite the restrictions placed upon participants during the pandemic.
Finally, we hope you’ll enjoy reading all about our recent faculty news, alumni updates, and law school happenings here at Memphis Law, as well as an interesting faculty op-ed feature written by Professor Katy Ramsey Mason, director of our Medical-Legal Partnership Clinic and one of the key founding members of our eviction-related work at Memphis Law.
