ABOUT THE FUNDRAISER:

Not only will the profits be split amongst the three multicultural affinity groups at Memphis law, a percentage of profits will go towards “Just City.”

Just City is a local nonprofit organization whose mission is “To transform local criminal justice policy and practice to ensure it is fair for all people regardless of wealth, race, or ethnicity.”

Not only will a percentage of proceeds go towards Just City, we are using a woman/queer owned screenprinting company based out of Nashville (@1585printco on Instagram) which also donates 15% of their proceeds to support their community!)

ABOUT THE DESIGN:
The symbol of justice circulated among society is the Lady of Justice. She holds the scales of justice and a sword, but also is blindfolded with the intention of reminding us she is an independent judge and arbiter of the law. However, this has led to the rhetoric and mention that “law is colorblind”. However, this notion is detrimental and fails to take account of the lived experiences that the law has unfortunately created disparate impacts on populations of color.

With this is mind, we cultivated the idea for this design to remove the blindfold from Lady Justice with the words to articulate our true intention of this collaboration “Justice Sees Color”. This collaboration intends to bring awareness of the importance of acknowledging “color” in the legal and judicial context.
