Join OUTlaw for LGBTQIA+ Law Students and Allies!

Memphis OUTlaw is an organization that provides educational support, professional development, mentoring, and networking opportunities for LGBTQ or ally law students. Some of our latest accomplishments include:
  • in 2020, OUTlaw has been recognized by the National LGBTQ Bar Association
  • in 2022, OUTlaw created an Alternative Spring Break clinic to help over 50 transgender clients legally change their name in Shelby County and hosted a drag show fundraiser to cover their court fees,
  • in 2022, OUTlaw hosted a 2 day “Love Wins” event with Jim Obergefell and his attorney Al Gerhardstein, the named Plaintiff and lawyer in Obergefell v. Hodges, the landmark case that legalized same-sex marriage in 2015 with the help of our very own Professor Regina Hillman.

With all the accomplishments we have celebrated in the last few years a few things have stayed the same: how we run our organization. OUTlaw prides itself on INCLUSIVITY.  There are no membership fees, no mandatory meetings,  and you don’t have to identify anywhere on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum.  The only requirement is that you will support and advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community and fellow law students.
