Funding for Public Interest Internships

Would you like to intern with a public interest organization this summer but need to get paid?  The Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps JD program provides law students with the opportunity to earn a $1212 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award for dedicating 300 hours of service to a qualifying legal project with a nonprofit program or other qualifying organization.

Students serving in priority areas (defined below) may apply now through Friday, February 6, 2015.  Priority Areas:

  • Direct legal services:  intake, legal form prep, performing client and witness interviews, advocating, attending hearings, assisting attorneys in legal representation, legal research and writing
  • Outreach & education:  developing and distributing fact sheets, developing and delivering training on legal topics or on how to access legal services, ensuring potential clients are aware of their rights and available services
  • Capacity building:  activities which build the capacity of your host organization or other organizations to provide services in the previously specified priority areas, such as an organizational assessment, compiling best practices, organizing focus groups, leading planning committees
