Friendly Reminders as the Exam Period Begins

Exam4:  Make sure you have downloaded the latest version of Exam4.  Ms. Edwards provided instructions, including the link, last week.  You can also find the instructions on the Exams & Grades page of the website.  Complete one or more practice exams so that you are comfortable with the process and the software; be sure to go through the process of obtaining your exam materials when completing the practice exam(s) (see below).

Exam ID and Password:  Ms. Edwards sent your Exam ID and Password by email last week.  If you have not received this email, please contact Ms. Edwards at cedwrds2@memphis.edu.

Exam Modes, Exam Display, and Exam Availability/Schedule:  For each exam, your professor has chosen the Exam Mode (CLOSED, OPEN, OPEN+NETWORK or TAKEHOME), Exam Display (Download/Print OR On-Screen Viewer), and the Exam Availability/Schedule (i.e., when you must take the exam and how long you have to take it once you access the materials).  Be sure to review all instructions and exam information provided by your professor carefully.  Additionally, the Exam Course List, posted on the Exams & Grades page, collects this information for all exams in one place.

Obtaining Your Exam Materials:  The number one problem students run into with remote exams is forgetting where or when to obtain their exam materials.  As Ms. Edwards noted in her email, you may find it helpful to  print/write down these high-level steps and have them handy when you take an exam:

1.   Obtain the exam materials from the Exam4 website (https://memphiscloud.exam4.com:20763/) by logging in with your Exam ID and Password.  Your time will begin running when you get access to the exam materials via the website.

2.   Open the Exam4 software (if not already open) and go through (or finish) the necessary steps to begin the exam in the software.

**You may open the software and take preliminary steps before you obtain your exam materials, but DO NOT click “Begin Exam” before you have obtained the exam materials. Some exam modes will lock out internet access. So, make sure you write down/print the Document ID from the website (for On-Screen Viewer exams) OR download/print the exam materials from the website before you click “Begin Exam” in the software.  If you forget, contact LawExams@memphis.edu and LawIT@memphis.edu; we’ll get you reset.  You won’t lose time because your time doesn’t start until you log in to the website.

**If your exam requires a Document ID (obtained from the website), do not use your Document ID as your Exam ID in the software.

3.   Create your exam answer in the software by typing your essay answer in the text box and (if applicable) selecting your multiple-choice answers in the multiple-choice module.

4.   Submit your exam answer via the software.

Problems During the Exam/Exam Period:  If you have any problems during an exam or during the exam period, send an email to LawExams@memphis.edu.  This email will go to Ms. Edwards, Dean Wilson, and Dean Aden so that the first person available can assist you.  This email will be monitored Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.  If the matter is urgent and you do not get a response within 5 minutes, please call 901.678.5730.  If you plan to take your exams outside of these hours (M-F, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.) and have a problem, we may not get your email/message until the next business day.  BUT please send the email and make the call so that we can help you as soon as we are able.  If the problem involves Exam4 or other technology, please copy LawIT@memphis.edu as well.

Although it is very rare, if your computer freezes or crashes, the Exam4 FAQs posted on the Exams & Grades page provide instructions for what to do, even if you can’t reach us (e.g., if you’re taking your exam at 3 a.m.).  You won’t lose your work; Exam4 saves your work every 10 seconds.  And you won’t lose time; see the instructions for more details.  Of course, if it’s during the support hours or we’re otherwise available, we can walk you through the steps.

Other Questions:  The Exam4 FAQs document posted on the Exams & Grades page provides answers to frequently asked or anticipated questions.   Additionally, you may send questions to LawExams@memphis.edu.

Good luck on your exams!  Reach out if you need us.
