Designated Classrooms for 1L Sections
Dear 1Ls,
We are excited that some students were able to return to in-person classes beginning last week. We know that other students may not have many in-person classes and want additional opportunities for in-person interaction, a more structured learning environment for remote classes, and increased opportunities to develop relationships and study partnerships with classmates.
We have reserved a classroom for each section in the law building for 1Ls who would like more in-person interaction, to attend their remote classes in a designated space with classmates, and a space to use for studying. There are currently no in-person classes scheduled in the designated classrooms, so these rooms will be available to students in each section around the clock.
During class times, the designated space is prioritized for students wishing to attend their section’s remote classes in the law building. At all other times, the designated classroom can serve as a study hall space for each section. Study halls are intended to be a quiet study space, so please keep noise and disruptions to a minimum.

Students attending remote classes in the designated classroom spaces may log in with their Memphis.edu credentials on the classroom computers to view remote classes on the big classroom screens while also using their computers at their seats to interact individually with the professor and remote classmates. Instructions for using the screens will be posted at the lectern.
Students wishing to use the classroom screens should space out as much as possible and mute the Zoom volume and the classroom audio on the overhead system. Students should also headphones during classes to avoid audio feedback and interference.
If you have questions related to the technology, please contact lawit@memphis.edu or the Helpdesk at 901-678-8888.
COVID-19 precautions, including social distancing, masks, and daily symptom checks, remain in effect in the law building.
