JUDICIAL LAW CLERK
The Mississippi Appellate Court Judge Latrice A. Westbrooks is seeking a judicial law clerk for the 2022-2023 year. The work location is 450 High St, Jackson, Mississippi. The Judicial Law Clerk position will commence on the applicant’s start date and extend for a term of one year. The Clerk will provide legal support to the Judge by conducting legal research, preparing draft opinions and orders, working on research projects, and carrying out administrative duties. The Mississippi Court of Appeals handles both civil and criminal cases, covering a wide variety of issues across the legal spectrum. This is a full-time salary position. The Judge prefers a state date nearest to August 1, 2022.
Education and Experience
To qualify for the position of law clerk on the personal staff of an appellate judge, a person must be a law school graduate from a law school of recognized standing, and have demonstrated one or more of the following accomplishments or proficiencies:
• A juris doctor degree from a law school on the approved list of either the American Bar Association or the Association of American Law Schools
• A minimum of a 3.0 grade in a legal writing course
• Experience in publishing for a law review (preferable but not required)
• Participation in moot court
• Participation in law clinics
• An interest in public policy
