ABA Janet D. Steiger Fellowship: Application deadline Nov. 28

The ABA Janet D. Steiger Fellowship provides law students with the extraordinary opportunity to work in the consumer protection departments of state and territorial Offices of Attorneys General and other consumer protection agencies. The eight to ten-week paid Fellowships were initiated in 2004 by the ABA Antitrust Law Section, in cooperation with the National Association of Attorneys General, as a consumer protection outreach initiative to introduce law students to the rewards of legal careers in public service.

The link below includes the student application.  The application due date is November 28, 2025.  Students chosen to be a Steiger Fellow receive a gross stipend of $6,000.

Janet D. Steiger Fellowship Project

This year, the Project, which catapulted my career in antitrust, will facilitate the placement of law students during the summer of 2026 in a total of 30 host sites, including the consumer protection and/or antitrust departments of 27 state agencies, most of which are the offices of state attorneys general.  Additionally, the D.C. Attorney General’s Office, the National Association of Attorneys General, and the Puerto Rico Department of Justice will also serve as host sites. since we began the Project in 2005, we have facilitated the placement of more than 600 Steiger Fellows.

I would be grateful if you would consider sharing this information with the students at the school, including students who are interested in sampling public service.  If it is helpful, I have also attached a graphic about the fellowship.  Feel free to share this with your students.

Should any students seek additional information, I would be happy to chat with them via Zoom.  I can reached at my firm’s e-mail address – rcrauthers@mccarter.com.
