1L Scholars Program Info

The Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) offers opportunities to first-year law students at University of Memphis, below:

Launched in 2011, our Success in Law School Mentoring Program has enabled thousands of diverse 1Ls to receive attentive, personal mentoring from attorneys at the most prestigious law firms and corporate legal departments in America.

First-year Mentees are typically matched with local LCLD-affiliated attorneys, although some may opt for a virtual relationship with a Mentor in another city. Students participate in one-on-one and group mentoring activities.

Launched in 2012, our 1L Scholars Program strengthens the legal pipeline by encouraging LCLD Members to invest in opportunities for first-year law students to work side-by-side with attorneys from LCLD Member organizations and build their professional skills.

Once hired for their summer internship the 1Ls have the opportunity to participate in the 1L Scholars Virtual Experience, which is a professional development program with a focus on panel discussions, networking and building relationship skills. Students can apply to the LCLD job board starting December 2.
