OCI for RECENT GRADS interested in criminal defense (Apply by July 8)
The Office of the District Public Defender for the 13th Judicial District is currently seeking applicants to fill an Assistant District Public Defender position. The successful applicant will be responsible for representing indigent criminal defendants in both General Sessions and Criminal Court. Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to function as a criminal litigator, with minimal guidance, in a highly demanding environment.
About the Office:
The Office of the District Public Defender for the 13th Judicial District is located in Cookeville,Tennessee. The Office serves the 13th Judicial District. The 13th Judicial District is comprised of the counties of Clay, Cumberland, DeKalb, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, and White. District-wide, our population is 213,531, of which 41,872 (19.6%) live below the poverty level.
Cookeville is located 70 miles east of Nashville and 100 miles west of Knoxville.
Position Requirements:
• Valid Tennessee law license (recent grads taking the bar will be considered)
• Superior oral and writing skills.
• Strong research and interpersonal skills.
• Good judgment.
• Excellent communication and courtroom skills.
• Proficient in use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Candidate must be able to work cooperatively and flexible to work extra hours and days as
necessary.
• Ability to make timely and effective decisions.
• Ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with other attorneys, support staff and
client agencies.
• No prior or pending disciplinary actions with the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility.
Salary and Benefits:
This is a full-time position. Salary is based on experience. Health insurance and retirement benefits available.
The position will start September 1st.
