CURRENT 1L AND 2L STUDENTS – SUMMER 2015 EXTERNSHIP PROGRAM – LIMITED ENROLLMENT OPPORTUNITIES STILL AVAILABLE

Dear All:

As we begin our approach to enrollment for the Summer 2015 semester, I am thrilled that many of you have applied and been accepted for enrollment in the Summer 2015 Externship Program.

If you are a current 2L or a current 1L who will have completed 28 credits by the end of this academic year, and you are interested in earning academic credit for supervised legal work to be performed during the summer semester (beginning May 18th), I write to share that there remain a LIMITED number of open field placements coordinated through the Externship Course:

  • U.S. District Court (W.D. Tenn.)
  • U.S. Bankruptcy Court (W.D. Tenn.) (rising 3L students only)
  • Tennessee Supreme Court (Memphis/Justice Kirby)
  • Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals (Memphis/Judge McMullen)
  • Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals (Jackson/Judge Page) (rising 3L students only)
  • Shelby County Circuit Court
  • University of Memphis Office of University Counsel
  • EEOC – Hearings Unit (rising 3L students only)
  • Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (Nashville)
  • Shelby County Public Defender’s Office
  • Memphis City Attorney’s Office
    • Litigation Unit
    • Transactional Unit
    • Anti-Blight Litigation Unit (rising 3L students only)
  • Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority
  • Memphis Area Legal Services

If you wish to apply for enrollment in any of the above-identified field placements through the Summer 2015 Externship, please contact me immediately and/or submit the attached application and required cover letter and resume materials to Ms. Sandy Love (stlove@memphis.edu) by NO LATER THAN MONDAY, MARCH 16th, AT 4:30 P.M.

In addition to the Externship Course Enrollment Application, I am attaching the Objectives, Policies, and Procedures for the Summer 2015 Externship Program and the descriptions of the above-listed Summer 2015 Field Placements.
