If you are a 2L or 3L student interested in trying out for the UNIVERSITY OF MEMPHIS NATIONAL TRIAL TEAM, please note the following IMPORTANT DATES:
National Trial Team Closing Argument Instructional Session
Friday, September 5th, at 2:30 p.m., in the Historic Courtroom
(Attendance is NOT required to try out) Deadline to Sign Up for Trial Team Tryout Tuesday, September 9th, by 5:00 p.m. National Trial Team Tryouts
Thursday, September 11th (1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.) Friday, September 12th (9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) In the Historic Courtroom
Tryouts for the National Trial Team will consist of a 5-7 minute Closing Argument for either side of the State of Lone Star v. John Martin, M.D. case (complete case file can be found HERE). All students interested in learning more about and seeing a mock closing argument BEFORE TRYOUTS are invited to an instructional session to be led by Coaches Danny Schaffzin, Michelle Slack, Brigid Welsh, and Sam Hinson on Friday, September 5th, at 2:30 p.m., in the Historic Courtroom.
Interested students should register for the National Mock Trial Team’s TWEN page and sign-up for a tryout slot under the “sign-up sheets” tab on the TWEN page (“University of Memphis National Trial Team – 2014-15”). Once you have signed up for a tryout slot, please e-mail that slot and a current resume to Chief Justice Courtney Sharp at ccsharp@memphis.edu. Upon receiving your e-mail, the Chief Justice will forward the tryout case file to you so that you can prepare your closing argument. Please register by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9th.
