September 10, 2017,\u00a0 ILSA has changed its name to ILS (International Law Society) and is now accepting interest statements for newly created officer positions. The name was changed to clarify the ambiguity of the previous name. \u00a0We are an organization dedicated to promoting education, understanding, and networking\u00a0in International Law, not an organization that is just for law students that might come from other nations or have an international background. We are still an ILSA chapter operating under the national chapter and ILSA rules allow\u00a0for such a change.<\/p>\n
With regard to newly created officer positions, we had so much interest at our first meeting, both in membership and offices, that we\u00a0increased\u00a0the number of available roles to\u00a0meet the demand of\u00a0this\u00a0quickly expanding organization. Under new leadership, we have created a highly ambitious schedule of programming and innovated how student organizations present this programming to students. If you want to be part of this premier organization you can become a member ($15 sem. or $30\/yr. paid to Venmo, @Hawk-Allen or checks\u00a0made to ILS in student mailbox 132),\u00a0and members are allowed to run for the offices\u00a0listed below, provided they submit a brief interest statement (to wbnaser@memphis.edu or dmallen2@memphis.edu) by Friday 09\/15, at midnight. Please remember candidates statements will not be placed on TWEN (where voting takes place) unless they are paid members of ILS. Candidate elections will be held 9\/16-9\/18 and new board members will be announced on 9\/18.<\/p>\n
The available\u00a0officer positions are:<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Secretary<\/strong>: The “Secretary” shall compile and maintain the minutes of meetings and keep a current list of members. The Secretary shall make minutes and a current list of members available to the Vice President for posting on TWEN. The secretary shall reserve necessary rooms or spaces, on or off campus, as directed by The Board, and in conjunction with the treasurer as necessary. The Secretary will be responsible for production, placement, collection, and retention of event sign-in sheets and make them available upon request to other members of The Board.<\/p>\n \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Treasure<\/strong>r: The “Treasurer” shall create, maintain and\/or report, as directed by The Board, the financial accounts and records of ILS. The treasurer will have sole authority in the capacity as treasurer to accept funds or dues, and to pay expenditures of not more than one-hundred dollars ($100.00). For expenditures over one-hundred dollars ($100.00), the treasurer will need to first obtain written permission from the President before paying such obligations. The treasurer shall create and set forth the ILS budget. The treasurer shall perform these duties in a manner consistent with University of Memphis rules and regulations for organizations which accept monetary dues, and with any federal or state laws.<\/p>\n \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Events Manager<\/strong>: The \u201cManager\u201d shall handle the logistics of all events, meetings, functions and presentations organized by ILS. The events manager will ensure that \u201cday of\u201d activities are coordinated and that the end user experience of our members, speakers and other attendees is representative of the local chapter expectations of event innovation and efficiency. Specific duties will include but are not limited to ensuring catering is on time and as promised, welcoming and interacting with speakers, facilitating and streamlining catering lines so events can begin on time, disseminating handouts, timekeeping and ensuring clean-up.<\/p>\n Grant Writer<\/strong>: The \u201cGW\u201d is responsible for generating revenue sufficient for all planned ILS activities. The GW shall research available grants or other funding opportunities. The GW will prepare and submit applications or other necessary forms or materials necessary to obtain funding. The GW must fully investigate any grants or funding sources presented to the GW by any executive board member or by the Advisor. The GW will also organize the yearly University approved bake sale, and any other fundraising activity delegated by the President or The Board. The GW will fully report any grants or funding for which GW applied and those which are approved on behalf of ILS at the first Executive Board Meeting following such application or approval. The GW shall direct funds towards the treasurer. The GW may propose fundraisers at any Executive Board Meeting, or as needed, may give notice and call to order a special Executive Board meeting for approval of time-sensitive fundraising opportunities.<\/p>\n \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>1L Representative<\/strong>: Two (2) \u201c1L Rep\u201d positions will be filled in September and will run until May 14, in the spring, but will otherwise follow the election procedures of Article VI. One position will be filled by an individual from section 11 and another from section 12. The 1L Rep will have two specific duties, but may be assigned other minor duties by the President as needed.
