{"id":5532,"date":"2016-04-06T16:17:20","date_gmt":"2016-04-06T21:17:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onlegalgrounds.law.memphis.edu\/wordpress\/?p=5532"},"modified":"2016-04-06T16:17:20","modified_gmt":"2016-04-06T21:17:20","slug":"legal-aid-society-public-service-fellowships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/memphislawblog.com\/index.php\/legal-aid-society-public-service-fellowships\/","title":{"rendered":"Legal Aid Society Public Service Fellowships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">The Legal Aid Society is the nation\u2019s oldest and largest provider of free legal services for low- income families and individuals.\u00a0Legal Aid\u2019s staff of lawyers, paralegals, investigators, social workers, and support personnel provide comprehensive legal services in New York City\u2019s five boroughs in more than 300,000 cases and legal matters annually.\u00a0 The Society\u2019s major areas of legal practice are the <b>Civil Practice<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">, which handles housing, income support, family law, immigration, and general civil matters; the<\/span><b><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> Criminal Practice<\/span><\/b><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">, which serves as the City\u2019s principal public defender for criminal prosecutions at the trial and appellate levels, and also in post-conviction and parole revocation proceedings; and the <\/span><b><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Juvenile Rights Practice<\/span><\/b><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">, in which lawyers serve as attorneys for children in child welfare protective and delinquency proceedings in family court. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">Each year, The Legal Aid Society sponsors candidates for Public Service Fellowships such as the Skadden, Equal Justice Works, and Soros Fellowships.\u00a0The Legal Aid Society looks for applicants with a demonstrated commitment to providing high quality legal services for low-income families and individuals.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">To apply: email a resume and cover letter, fellowship proposal, law school transcript, list of references and writing sample to <\/span><a href=\"mailto:fellowships@legal-aid.org\"><span style=\"color: #0563c1;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">fellowships@legal-aid.org<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> in 1 single PDF.
