{"id":5353,"date":"2016-03-24T12:17:52","date_gmt":"2016-03-24T17:17:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onlegalgrounds.law.memphis.edu\/wordpress\/?p=5353"},"modified":"2016-03-24T12:22:21","modified_gmt":"2016-03-24T17:22:21","slug":"apply-now-for-gideons-promise-clerkships-in-nashville-knoxville","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/memphislawblog.com\/index.php\/apply-now-for-gideons-promise-clerkships-in-nashville-knoxville\/","title":{"rendered":"Apply Now for Gideon&#8217;s Promise Clerkships in Nashville, Knoxville, other locations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Gideon\u2019s Promise has extended\u00a0the deadline to apply for select unfilled internships.\u00a0 They will continue to review and place applicants, on a rolling basis, until\u00a0April 15th, 2016.\u00a0 Specifically, positions are still open in Nashville and Knoxville, as well as in Birmingham, AL, Augusta, GA, Lumberton, NC, and Charleston, WV.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This pipeline program places law school students in our Gideon\u2019s Promise partner offices for the summer \u2013 roughly 6-8 weeks. Clerks are paired with a Gideon\u2019s Promise-trained lawyer, exposed to indigent defense practice, and the Gideon\u2019s Promise network of support.\u00a0Clerks gain valuable experience drafting legal documents, conducting witness and client interviews, jail visits, assisting public defenders with cases, briefs, motions, and will have opportunities to conduct legal research, and much, much more.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the beginning their clerkships, selected students will attend an orientation in Atlanta hosted by Gideon\u2019s Promise, the Southern Center for Human Rights, and other Atlanta-based public interest organizations.
