{"id":40904,"date":"2026-05-12T09:19:22","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T14:19:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/memphislawblog.com\/?p=40904"},"modified":"2026-05-12T09:19:22","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T14:19:22","slug":"neti-law-clerk-honors-program-in-epas-office-of-enforcement-and-compliance-assurance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/memphislawblog.com\/index.php\/neti-law-clerk-honors-program-in-epas-office-of-enforcement-and-compliance-assurance\/","title":{"rendered":"NETI Law Clerk Honors Program in EPA&#8217;s Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"l-constrain\">\n<div class=\"usa-in-page-nav-container\">\n<div class=\"usa-in-page-nav-main\">\n<div class=\"l-sidebar l-sidebar--reversed\">\n<div class=\"l-sidebar__main\">\n<article class=\"article\" lang=\"en\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>EPA\u2019s National Enforcement Training Institute (NETI), in \u00a0the Compliance, Inspector, and Training Division, offers qualified and highly motivated law students the opportunity to intern side by side with practicing environmental lawyers and technical professionals across the agency\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/aboutepa\/about-office-enforcement-and-compliance-assurance-oeca\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"aa891ac1-d1ab-426d-9645-500df2da3fe4\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\">Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance (OECA)<\/a> in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>NETI\u2019s Law Clerk Honors Program for the fall and spring semesters are 10 weeks either full-time or part-time. The summer semester program is full-time for 10 weeks.\u00a0All\u00a0law clerk positions are unpaid and\u00a0limited to U.S. citizens.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"what-do-law-clerks-in-this-program-do\" class=\"usa-anchor\" data-once=\"external-links protected-links\"><\/a>What do law clerks in this program do?<\/h2>\n<p>EPA\u2019s enforcement and compliance offices enforce and ensure compliance with the Clean Air Act; Clean Water Act;\u00a0Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act;\u00a0Resource Conservation and Recovery Act;\u00a0Toxic Substances Control Act;\u00a0Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act; and other environmental laws.<\/p>\n<p>Law clerks work with practicing environmental lawyers and technical professionals on active cases, policies and other projects related to civil (administrative and judicial) and criminal enforcement, investigations, inspections, targeting\/priorities, federal facilities enforcement, state\/tribal enforcement coordination, and other matters. Specific projects and assigned practice areas will depend upon where the law clerk is placed within an OECA program office.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, NETI\u2019s Law Clerk Honors Program includes\u00a0opportunities to attend specialized training\u00a0sessions on environmental compliance and enforcement, as well as some relevant technical and data topics. Positions are competitive. We look for qualified and highly motivated candidates with superior records of achievement, a commitment to environmental and\/or law enforcement work, and who work well in teams.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"where-would-i-intern\" class=\"usa-anchor\" data-once=\"external-links protected-links\"><\/a>Where would I intern?<\/h2>\n<p>In-person students intern at EPA Headquarters located at 1200 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C. The program also provides the opportunity to intern remotely within the U.S. All students, regardless of whether they intern in-person or virtually, will be provided with an EPA-issued laptop.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"what-is-the-program-s-typical-weekly-minimum-hours\" class=\"usa-anchor\" data-once=\"external-links protected-links\"><\/a>What is the program\u2019s typical weekly minimum hours?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Summer semester:\u00a0<\/strong>Minimum of 40 hours per week for 10 \u00a0weeks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fall and spring semesters:\u00a0<\/strong>Minimum of 15 hours per week for 10 weeks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><a id=\"are-the-positions-paid\" class=\"usa-anchor\" data-once=\"external-links protected-links\"><\/a>Are the positions paid?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The NETI Law Clerk Honors program does not offer paid positions.<\/li>\n<li>Some law schools provide law school credit(s) for participation in programs like the NETI Law Clerk Honors Program.
