Then make sure you join us next Thursday, April 2 at Noon<\/strong> in Wade Auditorium for our Inaugural Herff Distinguished Visitor Series Lecture with Professor Douglas NeJaime, the Anne Urowsky Professor of Law and Counselor to the Dean at Yale Law School. His lecture, “Real Parenthood: Nature, Nurture, and the Law and Politics of Parenthood,”<\/strong> will focus on the work of biology in the law of parenthood – tracing the way the turn to biology promoted equality for non-marital families in the 2nd half of the 20th century and identifying how today biology is used to undermine equality, based not only on marital status, but also gender, and sexual orientation. The lecture will show how some U.S. jurisdictions have sought to vindicate equality commitments by moving away from biological conceptions of parenthood and instead prioritizing concepts of intent and function.<\/p>\n
