{"id":36900,"date":"2025-05-08T12:13:38","date_gmt":"2025-05-08T17:13:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/memphislawblog.com\/?p=36900"},"modified":"2025-05-08T12:13:38","modified_gmt":"2025-05-08T17:13:38","slug":"advising-resources-for-rising-2ls-and-3ls-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/memphislawblog.com\/index.php\/advising-resources-for-rising-2ls-and-3ls-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Advising Resources for Rising 2Ls and 3Ls"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"clear\">Dear Students,<\/div>\n<div class=\"entry themeform\">\n<div class=\"entry-inner\">\n<p>As registration approaches, I am writing to make you aware of some resources we have for Academic Advising as you plan your courses.\u00a0 Registration will take place the week of May 12, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Registration Memo<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>First and most importantly, please be sure to read the Registration Memo and other information on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.memphis.edu\/law\/registrar\/registration_courseinformation.php\">Registration and Course Information<\/a>\u00a0page.\u00a0 The answers to many of your questions are here.<\/p>\n<p>Review the Fall 2025 registration materials and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.memphis.edu\/law\/registrar\/registration_courseinformation.php\">Spring 2026 Tentative Course List<\/a>, which is available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.memphis.edu\/law\/registrar\/registration_courseinformation.php\">Registration and Course Information<\/a>\u00a0page.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Advising Workshop Videos and PowerPoints<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Review the PowerPoints from Dean Wilson\u2019s Spring 2025 Academic Advising Workshops.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.memphis.edu\/law\/student-affairs\/rising3ladvisingpptfall2025.pdf\">Rising 3Ls<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.memphis.edu\/law\/student-affairs\/rising2ladvisingpptfall2025.pdf\">Rising 2Ls<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>UM Degree<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The law school has access to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/umdegree.memphis.edu\/\">UM Degree<\/a>, the University\u2019s degree-auditing platform. UM Degree will allow you to track your progress toward your JD and show your outstanding requirements as well as options that fulfill those requirements.<\/p>\n<p>If you declare interest in pursuing the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.memphis.edu\/law\/current-students\/certificate-programs.php\">Advocacy, Business, Health, or\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.memphis.edu\/law\/current-students\/certificate-programs.php\">Tax Certificates<\/a>\u00a0by completing the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/memphis.co1.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_9N7St89lgLx45Wl\">Certificate Declaration Form<\/a>, it can track your progress toward certificate requirements as well.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that UM Degree is not an official record of your degree or certificate progress, but rather a tool for you to use for your planning purposes.\u00a0 The Law Registrar\u2019s Office and certificate advisor will determine whether you have met your degree and certificate requirements, so please contact the Law Registrar or certificate advisor with any questions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Academic Advising Website<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>We have updated the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.memphis.edu\/law\/student-affairs\/student-advising.php\">Academic Advising website<\/a>\u00a0with additional helpful resources for you as you plan your course schedule.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.memphis.edu\/law\/student-affairs\/advisingworksheetsfall2025.docx\">Academic Advising Worksheet<\/a> is one of the most helpful advising tools on the Academic Advising website.\u00a0 It can help you plan next semester\u2019s courses and begin planning for future semesters, as well.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Individual Advising<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Current 1Ls (Rising 2Ls) have been assigned to a faculty member for academic advising and should already have received academic advising last month.\u00a0 Please reach back out to your assigned faculty advisor if you have questions after the recent changes to the schedule.<\/li>\n<li>If you are interested in pursuing a certificate in Advocacy, Business, Health, or Tax Law, ask to meet with the Certificate Director make sure you are on track for the certificate.<\/li>\n<li>Students should also consider seeking academic advising from faculty who teach, write, or have practiced in areas of law of interest to you.<\/li>\n<li>Current 2Ls (Rising 3Ls) may also reach out to the professor who advised you during your 1L year.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"mailto:maden@memphis.edu?subject=Academic%20Advising\">Dean Aden<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:Jodi.Wilson@memphis.edu?subject=Academic%20Advising\">Dean Wilson<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:jmbrynt2@memphis.edu\">Dean O\u2019Bryant<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:cyfung@memphis.edu?subject=Academic%20Advising\">Professor Fung<\/a>\u00a0are also available for individual advising for students who want to discuss their course selections or have other questions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Schedule Approval for Students on Academic Warning or Probation<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Students on Academic Probation or Warning have been assigned an advisor and must have their schedules approved by their assigned academic advisor <strong>before registration<\/strong>.\u00a0 If the changes to the schedule will impact the schedule that has already been approved for you, you should reach back out to your advisor to get your updated schedule approved.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Complete the\u00a0relevant Academic Advising Worksheet\u00a0and email it to your advisor before any advising
