{"id":36333,"date":"2025-04-01T13:44:21","date_gmt":"2025-04-01T18:44:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/memphislawblog.com\/?p=36333"},"modified":"2025-04-01T13:44:21","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T18:44:21","slug":"3ls-short-term-law-clerk-needed-asap-for-shelby-county-circuit-court-division-iii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/memphislawblog.com\/index.php\/3ls-short-term-law-clerk-needed-asap-for-shelby-county-circuit-court-division-iii\/","title":{"rendered":"3Ls: Short Term Law Clerk Needed ASAP for Shelby County Circuit Court, Division III"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Circuit Court seeks a <strong>3L to serve as a short-term law clerk<\/strong> to assist a judge who will be sitting by designation until Judge Valerie Smith\u2019s replacement is named.\u00a0 The first judge to sit by designation will be retired Judge Karen Williams.\u00a0 <strong>Of course, we do not require work of our law clerks during the week of exams.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The law clerk\u2019s primary responsibility is to prepare the judge for the Friday motion docket. By mid-week, they are to prepare a spreadsheet of the motions indicating the nature of the motion and the attorneys on both sides.\u00a0 They meet with the judge each week to discuss the upcoming motion docket for the division and to get any special assignments related to the upcoming motions.\u00a0 Law clerks review all documents related to the motions, research the issues, and prepare briefs as needed.<\/p>\n<p>Law clerks contact attorneys and self-represented litigants with questions and with instructions for their court appearance.
