Shook Hardy & Bacon is excited to host a select group of first-year law students at the <\/strong><\/span>Shook Scholars Institute in Kansas City, Missouri from Wednesday, March 29th through Friday, March 31st, 2023<\/strong>. <\/span>The Shook Scholars Institute is an innovative diversity and inclusionfocused development program concentrated on litigation and trial skills, leadership, and career success competencies for the underrepresented attorney. Student travel, lodging, and meals will be provided by Shook.<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n

Program Highlights: What You Can Expect from Us<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

At Shook, inclusion is about creating a space where everyone belongs. We recognize that the varied perspectives and experiences found in a diverse and inclusive workplace create a broader, richer environment, producing innovative solutions for our clients. The Shook Scholars Institute gives law students the rare opportunity to learn from a litigation and trial powerhouse in an interactive, small-group setting led by Shook\u2019s attorneys. It provides them with critical development experiences while introducing them to valuable relationships and networks. Law students will experience a trial practice program, sessions on lawyering skills, leadership, success strategies and networking opportunities. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

What We Need from You<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The application process requires a completed online application, resume, law school transcript and a one-page essay explaining what you believe demonstrates your qualifications for the Shook Scholars Institute and how you will contribute to the advancement of diversity and inclusion in the legal profession. <\/span>Please note that you may submit an application before receiving your first semester transcript; however, as soon as you receive it, please email rmonroy@shb.com. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Eligibility Requirements and Selection Criteria<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The application process is open to all self-identified, racially and\/or ethnically diverse and\/or LGBTQ+ first-year law students enrolled full-time in an ABA-accredited law school. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
A selection panel will evaluate all applications, considering the factors below: <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u2022 Demonstrated academic performance and leadership achievements <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Significant personal achievements and strong community involvement <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Strong commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion and equity in the legal profession <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Sincere interest in practicing at a top civil litigation firm <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Students may apply through our website starting November 15, 2022. All applications are due by January 31, 2023.<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
