The University of Memphis Legal Clinic has partnered with Neighborhood Preservation, Inc., Memphis Area Legal Services, the City of Memphis, Shelby County, and other agencies to create the COVID-19 Eviction Settlement Project,\u00a0 through which attorneys and law students will advocate for residential tenants facing eviction or housing instability as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.\u00a0 The Project will offer eligible at-risk tenants access to direct legal services to negotiate the settlement of rental delinquencies and pursue dismissals of eviction cases.<\/p>\n
The COVID-19 Eviction Settlement Project seeks Memphis Law students to engage in this important advocacy work.\u00a0 Participating law students will be trained, work closely with supervising attorneys to provide direct legal services, and be invited to networking events throughout the summer.\u00a0 The expected time commitment is 5-10 hours a week.<\/p>\n
