In the past, teams have traveled to D.C., New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Boston and many more cities! There are three teams looking for competitors and brief-writers.\u00a0 If you are interested, p<span class=\"\">lease submit a one or two page statement explaining your interest and qualifications for competing on a travel team, a resume, and a persuasive writing sample. Your interest statement should contain a ranking of your team preferences or indicate if you have no preference. I<span class=\"\">f you are interested in being a brief writer, please indicate that preference in your statement of interest as well. Brief graders are not required to actually try out for the team. Tryouts for the ABA, Duberstein, and Wagner moot court teams will all be conducted together.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"\">We will contact to you to schedule a tryout once we receive your materials.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"\">Tryouts will be about 20-30 minutes and will consist of a 7-10 minute oral argument, along with a brief interview with the coaches.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"\">Please see additional information and descriptions of the teams below.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\" dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\" dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"\">Applicable to all<\/span>:<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" dir=\"auto\">Competitors will receive 2 academic credits for writing the brief and advocating in the competition; those who just join a team as a brief writer will receive 1 academic credit.\u00a0School reimburses all team members for hotel and per diem meals.\u00a0 The flights are paid for ahead of time.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\" dir=\"auto\">Must submit an interest statement, resume, and writing sample.\u00a0 Coaches prefer if the writing sample is a legal argument (e.g., appellate brief, trial brief or memorandum).\u00a0 Please rank your team preferences in the interest statement.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" dir=\"auto\">\n<div class=\"x_css-95\">\n<div class=\"x_contactInfoDetailContent-248\">\n<div class=\"x_contactInfoText-247\">\n<div class=\"x_contentLines-91\" title=\"eescobar@memphis.edu\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"\">1. ABA:<\/span><\/div>\n<ul class=\"\">\n<li class=\"\">Fields two teams of 3.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">2-3 openings (brief writers and\/or advocates)<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Brief is due January 13\u2014 teams will write their briefs over Christmas break.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">The issue is a Criminal Due Process issue, though we don\u2019t yet know specifically what about the 8th Amendment (we\u2019ll know more when the problem comes out).<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Team practices usually about 4 times per week.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">There are 6 Regions \u2014 we will likely be in a northeastern region (Philadelphia, Boston, or D.C.)<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">The competition begins on the weekend leading into spring break<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"\">2. Duberstein Bankruptcy Law:<\/span><\/div>\n<ul class=\"\">\n<li class=\"\">Fields two teams (4 oral advocates\/2 brief writers)<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Brief is written over Christmas break<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Regional competition takes place in Detroit in February<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">After regionals, teams will travel to N.Y. on the weekend leading into spring break.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Team practices about 2 or 3 times per week<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"\">3. Wagner Labor and Employment Law:<\/span><\/div>\n<ul class=\"\">\n<li class=\"\">Fields one team of 2-3 people.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Everyone who works on the brief must also argue.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Problem comes out in January.<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Brief is due mid-February.
