{"id":11557,"date":"2018-08-10T11:28:24","date_gmt":"2018-08-10T16:28:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/memphislawblog.com\/?p=11557"},"modified":"2018-08-10T11:28:24","modified_gmt":"2018-08-10T16:28:24","slug":"sba-president-welcome-letter-to-class-of-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/memphislawblog.com\/index.php\/sba-president-welcome-letter-to-class-of-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"SBA President Welcome Letter to Class of 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Class of 2021:<\/p>\n<p>Welcome to the Memphis Law family!\u00a0 It is a tremendous accomplishment to have gotten into law school.\u00a0 Congratulations!\u00a0 We look forward to having your class join us in the hallowed halls of our building.\u00a0 As a 3L serving as the 2018-2019 Student Bar Association President, I am excited for the new ideas, energy, and personality that your class will bring to the school.<\/p>\n<p>Next week you\u2019ll have orientation and then, before you know it, the first day of law school will arrive.\u00a0 As much as I hate to say it, pay attention during orientation.\u00a0 The first week, or even semester, of law school is tough.\u00a0 It\u2019s kind of like learning a new language.\u00a0 Orientation will help ease that stress and get you more in the swing of everything.\u00a0 Utilize professors, peers, and upper classmen you meet if you have any questions, big or small.\u00a0 I am personally delighted to help any of you adjust and feel more comfortable in the Memphis Law family.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the Student Bar Association (\u201cSBA\u201d) is to bring all of the students of the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law into one body to foster the spirit of fellowship and cooperation and to advance the purposes of the School of Law.\u00a0 As registered students, you are officially members of the SBA.\u00a0 In the coming weeks, you will learn all about how the SBA works, so be on the lookout for more information.\u00a0 We have weekly meetings open to all students, social events, student activities, guest speakers, community service projects, and more.\u00a0 I encourage all of you to follow SBA on Facebook for updates.\u00a0 It is also very important throughout the next three years to keep an eye on the school\u2019s blog, On Legal Grounds.\u00a0 This is a main method of communication for all organizations.\u00a0 If you\u2019re reading this, you\u2019re doing good so far!<\/p>\n<p>My last word of advice is to be bold. \u00a0As Uncle Ben Parker said to Peter Parker (also known as Spider-Man), \u201cwith great power comes great responsibility.\u201d \u00a0Being able to understand the law is powerful, but studying the law can be a daunting responsibility. \u00a0I remember feeling both excited and terrified when I began my career as a law student. \u00a0The work load of law school can be intense, and at times each student becomes overwhelmed. \u00a0Embrace those feelings.
