Winter Break Book Club

Join Professor Kiel and a small group of students for the fourth annual winter break book club.  This year’s book will be “The Second: Race and Guns in a Fatally Unequal America” by Carol Anderson.  Here is a review from the NY Times.  The book examines the history and impact of the Second Amendment and how it was designed.  According to the publisher, it is neither a “pro-gun” nor an “anti-gun” book; the lens is the citizenship rights and human rights of African Americans as viewed through the amendment.  Participants in the book club will get together early in the spring semester to discuss – space is limited, so if you are interested, please email Professor Kiel (dkiel@memphis.edu) by January 1 to participate.  If you respond by 12/23, you will be entered in a drawing for one of two free copies to be sent to you.
