U.S. Department of Justice, Immigration Litigation Internship
The U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Division, Office of Immigration Litigation (OIL) is accepting applications for the Summer 2016 Volunteer Legal Internship/Externship Program in Washington, D.C. Please note the deadline for applying is January 30, 2016.
Students will be assigned to one of OIL’s litigation teams, where they will draft appellate briefs for asylum and cancellation of removal cases, write dispositive motions and case summaries for weekly litigation reports, conduct legal research, and prepare memoranda, as well as attend “First Cuts” meetings.
Student must be at least a rising 2L by the start date of the internship/externship, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00, be a United States Citizen and submit a suitability background investigation. The student must also commit to a minimum of 20 hours per week for 12 continuous weeks, demonstrate interest in immigration or appellate law, and show strong research and writing skills.
