Student Trainee in Law: USAID Internship Program

The USAID Internship Program (May 08, 2023 – August 5, 2023) is now open for applications! The program is designed to provide Interns with substantive work assignments, which expose them to the benefits of a Federal career.

Duties as an intern are to: provide legal support to attorneys in the Office of the General Counsel, conduct legal research and writing, attend meetings and briefings in support of Office of the General Counsel attorneys, brief General Counsel and United States Agency for International Development Operating Units on legal topics, and support attorneys in responding to inquiries from Congress, the Government Accountability Office, and the Office of Inspector General.

Qualifications

As a Law Intern you will assist GC in providing USAID leadership and USAID Bureaus, Independent Offices, and Missions with sound and timely legal research on all aspects of the Agency’s mission, and promoting the efficiency and effectiveness of USAID’s foreign assistance programs and operations, while ensuring compliance with statutes, regulations, and policies and upholding principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and access.

Law Interns will typically be assigned to at least two of the following GC Divisions: Acquisition and Assistance; Africa; Asia/Europe & Eurasia; Development, Democracy, and Innovation; Ethics and Administration (including employment and labor, privacy and cybersecurity); Global Health; Latin America and the Caribbean/Middle East; Legislation and Policy; Litigation and Enforcement, and; Relief, Response and Resilience. Applicants are encouraged to include a cover letter indicating which of the GC divisions listed above they are interested in.

Legal Interns will be assigned a grade level based on their satisfaction of the corresponding eligibility criteria at the time they apply for the internship.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following candidate eligibility requirements:

• Enrolled in an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school on a full or half-time basis and in good standing.
• Must have a GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent) or above.

GS-07: Currently enrolled in or completed the first year of law school.
GS-09: Currently enrolled in or completed the second year of law school.

College Transcripts: Please include a copy of your most recent college transcript (unofficial** or official) that demonstrates that you meet the education requirement listed above. Please ensure that all documentation is legible. If you do not include this information before the closing date of the announcement, your application will be marked as incomplete unless you provide a copy of a SF-50 that shows you are currently participating in a Pathways Internship program in the 0999 job series.
