Student Mac users: Do not update to Yosemite at this time
Currently Apple’s newest operating system, OS X 10.10 “Yosemite”, is not supported by Extegrity, the company that makes the Exam 4 testing software. If you are going to use an Apple laptop to take your final exams, please do not update to “Yosemite” until Extegrity official begins supporting it. As of today, the current list of supported operating systems is as follows:
- Windows 8.1
- Windows 8
- Windows 7
- Windows Vista
- Apple OS X 10.9 “Mavericks”
- Apple OS X 10.8 “Mountain Lion”
- Apple OS X 10.7 “Lion”
- Apple OS X 10.6 “Snow Leopard” (64-bit only)
You can check for which operating systems are supported on the following page: http://www.exam4.com/userguide#hardware
Extegrity provides the information below regarding their Operating System support policy, as seen on this page: http://www.exam4.com/userguide#osupdates:
Why are new Macintosh/Windows OS updates not supported immediately?
Exam software is a mission-critical application. Compatibility with operating system updates requires detailed review, possible programming modifications, and rigorous testing. This takes time. Extegrity initiates the process using developer preview versions typically provided for OS updates. However, Apple and Microsoft have been known to make substantive changes in final consumer releases, necessitating an additional cycle of review and testing after release.
How long will it take?
It depends on what we find. At a minimum, for minor updates with no issues found, it takes a couple of weeks. Major updates take longer to review. If programming modifications are required, even more time will be needed.
While it is entirely possible that Extegrity will begin supporting OS X “Yosemite” before final exams occur, we would discourage anyone from updating until the software is officially supported. Please be aware that you are responsible for having a working laptop to take your final exams on. Loaner laptops are only available for emergency situations and on a case-by-case basis. Once Extegrity begins support OS X 10.10 “Yosemite”, we will send out an update to notify you that it is now supported.
