Shelby County Public Defender’s Office – Summer Internship/Externship Program – Application Deadline: December 18, 2020

The deadline to submit application materials for the Office of the Shelby County Public Defender’s  Summer 2021 Internship/Externship Program is Friday, December 18th.  While interested law students may submit an application after December 18th, those students who apply after the December 18th deadline will be competing for fewer slots.

For more information about the Shelby County Public Defender’s Office Internship/Externship Program and/or to submit an application, please go to https://www.defendshelbyco.org/internship-form.  A complete application will include the following:

  • Cover letter
  • Resume
  • Personal statement (no more than 500 words) that describes interest in public defense work

Students who are accepted to the Shelby County Public Defender’s Office Summer Internship/Externship Program and wish to earn academic credit for their field placement work should contact Professor Danny Schaffzin (dschffzn@memphis.edu)  about eligibility for enrollment in the Summer 2021 Externship Course.   Please feel free to direct other questions about the Public Defender’s Office Program to Professor Schaffzin or to Assistant Shelby County Public Defender Vincent Ores  (vincent.ores@shelbycountytn.gov).
