Shelby County Commission Seeks 3 Paid Summer Interns
The Shelby County Commission seeks three motivated and enthusiastic PAID legal interns for the Summer of 2023
Working alongside County Commissioners and in coordination with counsel for the Commission, the selected interns will perform legal and policy research on issues including, but not limited to, transportation, mental health, justice-involved youth or adults, and housing security. Among other projects, it is anticipated that the interns will assist in researching and drafting proposed new ordinances and amendments to existing ordinances. Interns may also have an opportunity to assist the Commission with the development of informational resources and programs designed to enhance community outreach and access.
The ideal candidate for this internship should have a strong interest in local legislative issues, excellent research and writing skills, and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines. They should also have a solid understanding of legal research methodologies and be able to easily navigate legal databases and resources. This internship will offer an excellent opportunity for law students to gain valuable experience in legislative research, policy advocacy, and ordinance drafting.
Selected interns should be prepared to begin on or about June 1, 2023 and conclude on or about August 4, 2023. The interns will be compensated at a rate of $16.00 per hour.
