Comparative Law Seminar

2-hour research/writing course
In this seminar, students take a step back from the focus on U.S. law that dominates most of their legal education to explore the diverse ways in which societies organize themselves, resolve legal disputes, and grapple with defining rights and responsibilities. In the first part of the course, students are exposed to the main comparative law debates and methods, including the categorization of the world’s legal systems, functional approaches to comparative law, and legal transplants. In the second part of the course, students apply the knowledge and skills they develop in the first part of the course to conduct a comparative law research project. This course satisfies the Advanced Research/Writing requirement.
