SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: ABA Forum on Communications Law annual conference

The ABA Forum on Communications Law is recruiting law student applicants for this year’s scholarship competitions. The scholarships support student attendance at the Forum’s Annual Conference, which takes place February 4-6, 2027, at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort and Spa in San Diego. The conference offers law students an introduction to the practice of media law and an opportunity to network with lawyers active in the communications bar.

We have two separate scholarship opportunities with a single application. Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. ET November 8, 2026.

Conference Scholarships (2)

The Forum awards full scholarships to two law students that include conference registration, registration for the Media Advocacy Workshop, travel and lodging. The two winning applicants will have a demonstrated interest in media law and/or First Amendment law, as reflected in their transcript and resume. Other relevant considerations include strength of academic record and experience in the media field.

Media Advocacy Workshop Scholarships (10)

Prior to the conference, the Forum offers the Media Advocacy Workshop, which provides law students and early career attorneys an opportunity to practice their oral advocacy skills, engage in a pre-publication review exercise and participate in professional development activities tailored to them.

The Forum will award up to 10 scholarships of $1,500 to help defray travel and lodging costs in addition to offering complimentary registration for the Media Advocacy Workshop (valued at $245 for law students) and the Annual Conference (valued at $445 for students).
