SBA Official Statement
The Student Bar Association of the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, which represents the entire student body of Memphis Law, stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and in support our black classmates, professors, faculty, and staff, along with other minority groups of people of color. The murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, just three of countless members of the Black community that were killed as a result of police brutality and the effects of racism in America, have pushed forward a movement not only on a global scale of reformation but also within the hearts and minds of American citizens. It is embarrassingly past time for uncomfortable topics regarding systemic racism and social injustice to be pushed to the forefront of conversations. As law students, we are learning to be advocates for the entirety of our communities. In doing so, we cannot be silent where injustice exists and runs rampant. Instead, we are tasked with being leaders in combatting injustice, amplifying the voices of the black community experiencing this injustice, and standing together during this challenging time.
