REMINDER – ROOTS Memphis – Farm to Office CSA at the law school
In an effort to offer our students, faculty and staff easier access to fresh vegetables and other produce, a local organization called ROOTS Memphis has offered the law school the chance to take part in their “Farm to Office” CSA (community supported agriculture) program. Neither ROOTS nor the Law School profits off of the CSA program, we simply wanted to present you with this opportunity to sign up and take part if you are interested. The program runs from April 29 – Nov. 4 and is on a first-come, first-serve basis. We will be allowed to have no more than 30 members sign up from the law school, so if you are interested in taking part, please click the sign-up form at the bottom of this email and sing up accordingly. More information regarding ROOTS and the pricing is below as well.
ROOTS, a 501-c(3) non-profit organization, is a farmer incubator program that trains and launches new, sustainable farmers in the Memphis region by combining sustainable farm skills training and small farm business management classes with an incubation process that connects graduates to land, financing, markets, and ongoing technical assistance and consultation. They have a new 10-acre farming academy and working farm at Shelby Farms where they grow all of their own food and train local farmers.
In case you are unfamiliar, CSA is a program for an individual to get a pre-arranged assortment of produce and freshly farmed items delivered to them at a pre-decided location, from a particular farm. You usually sign up for the whole season and can pay all at once or on a weekly basis. Each week you’ll get a fresh bag of things from the farm delivered to a specific pick-up location, which saves you from having to go to the grocery store for vegetables, produce and herbs, and it helps support a great local farm in the process.
In order for us to officially become a delivery option, a minimum of 10 people must sign up and be confirmed. The pricing information is below and if you are interested in signing up, please click on the link below to sign up on the form. Once we have enough people, ROOTS will contact the interested parties and take care of your payment information.
Please keep in mind that a large portion of this program takes place during the summer. Bags will be delivered every Wednesday and will only be held until the end of the business day (5:00 p.m.), after which they will be donated or discarded in order to avoid spoilage. There is no stoppage option on the program during the summer, so if you will not be able to pick up your CSA bags during the summer months, please keep that in mind when considering this program.
