Pro Bono Opportunity: Youth Court
The Juvenile Court of Memphis and Shelby County is now recruiting law student and attorney volunteers for its Youth Court Program. In the Youth Court, a youth who has admitted culpability appears for a sentencing hearing before a jury of peers. The teen volunteers are drawn from local high schools. As an attorney or law student volunteer you will utilize your skills and experience to mentor volunteering youth as they fulfill roles as prosecutors, defenders, bailiffs, jury forepersons, and jurors. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to preside as judge during these court proceedings. The Youth Court is a pre-approved pro bono opportunity for the purposes of Memphis law student required pro bono credit.
Youth Court hearings are scheduled on the first and third Thursday of each month. All hearings begin promptly at 5:00 pm and end at 7:00 pm. To get more information or to apply to be a Youth Court Volunteer, please contact Jasmine Newsom (jasmine.newsom@shelbycountytn.gov) or
