Passing of Public Defender and Memphis Law Alum Michael “MJ” Johnson
While Michael Johnson, “MJ”, graduated Cecil C Humphreys a few decades ago, he never stopped giving back to the legal community. His life was one of service. He was a public defender for 30 years and loved every minute of it. He never turned down an opportunity to mentor young attorneys and loved being around people. MJ was a dear member of the Memphis Bar Criminal Law division and a friend of Memphis Law TACDL and Federalist Society. MJ never turned down an opportunity to attend student org events or to sit on a panel when asked. He embodied a public servant and was truly selfless. A near impossible task would be to find a picture of MJ alone. He was always with friends. However, for MJ, everyone was a potential friend, so this was not hard. He loved people, Memphis, and the legal community. MJ was a phenomenal attorney but an even better person. He will truly be missed.
