ML Issue #8 – Winter 2017
The eighth issue of ML is finally here and we are excited to share it with all of our law school alumni, students and friends.
You can find hard copies of this issue of ML in various locations around the law school. They should be available at the front desk, the student lounge, the Career Services Office, the Library main circulation desk, and in the newspaper stand in the lobby near the handicap entrance, as well as other places throughout the building.
In this issue, we examine the topic of artificial intelligence from several angles. Our first feature story, “The Rise of Robot Regulations,” looks at how AI is regulated across various industries, while still fostering growth and innovation.
Our second feature story, “I (Robot), Lawyer,” examines the extent to which AI will replace lawyers in our lifetime. It looks at how law firms and attorneys are incorporating AI into their practices.
Make sure you read about one of Memphis’ most dedicated public servants, as we profile recently retired judge, The Honorable Robert “Butch” Childers (JD ’74), and showcase his legacy in the Memphis legal community and beyond.
Additionally, we’ve put the spotlight on another alumna dedicated to helping those around her. Amber Floyd (JD ’10) was recently named as the recipient of the 2017 American Bar Association “On the Rise – Top 40 Young Lawyers” award and we’ve gone into more detail about her commitment to community service and work in the Memphis community in this profile.
We’re also proud to hihglight the impressive number of Federal Judicial Clerkships obtained by the Class of 2017, which places Memphis Law among the top law schools in the nation.
AUGMENTED REALITY (AR)
To coincide with our feature articles on artificial intelligence, we’re trying something new with this issue. We’ve enhanced our cover and select pages with augmented reality technology.
When you receive your print copy of ML, you just need to download Zappar from your app store, point your phone at the cover or selected page of the magazine to scan the “zapcode” icon, and watch the page come to life!
