Fall 2020 Schedule & Course Delivery Update

Dear Students,

Thank you for your patience as we worked through the course delivery and schedule adjustments required by our current circumstances. The updated Fall 2020 schedule is now available here. Please review the information below for additional details.

Schedule Changes & Course Delivery

As Dean Schaffzin explained in an earlier email, limited seating capacities have necessarily prevented us from proceeding exactly as planned for Fall 2020. As you will see, however, all classes are still being offered and most are still being offered at their originally scheduled days/times.

Faculty have determined the best methods for delivering their specific courses to you, taking into consideration the limitations placed on the use of space by COVID-19. The mode of delivery for each class is reflected on the course grid and course list available here. In the course grid, courses in a column with the “Online” heading will be delivered entirely online. Courses listed in a column with a room number will meet in-person for some or all class meetings. Most of those courses will meet as scheduled in a manner that is mostly familiar to you, albeit adjusted in consideration of social distancing and mask requirements. Due to seating capacity limitations, however, a small number of those courses will have a hyflex structure, meaning that students will alternate in-person and remote attendance pursuant to an established schedule. These hyflex courses are identified on the course grid and course list. Finally, a small number of courses will be offered as hybrid courses, with some classes meeting in-person and some content delivered online; these classes are also identified on the course grid and course list.

The schedule changes will be reflected in Banner within the next few days.

Registration & Waitlists

We have temporarily suspended registration while we update the enrollment limits in classes to reflect the limitations of our physical and virtual space. You will not be required to re-register, and you will not be removed from a course for which you have already registered.

Registration will reopen on Wednesday, July 22. Be aware that some classes are already at capacity. You should secure your place in a new class before dropping a class for which you have already registered.

Waitlists for seminars and experiential learning courses are still in place. If you are already on a waitlist for a seminar or experiential learning course, you do not need to renew your request to keep your place on the list. A permit will be required to enroll in the following classes for Fall 2020:

• Administrative Law
• Business Organizations
• Decedents’ Estates
• Evidence
• Family Law
• Income Tax
• Professional Responsibility
• Sales

If you would like to enroll in one of these courses, please email Law Registrar Cheryl Edwards and ask to be added to the waitlist. Of course, being on the waitlist does not guarantee a place in the course. You do not need to do anything if you are already enrolled in these courses.

In-Person Attendance

Students will be required to attend courses either online or in person, as scheduled for each specific course. There may, however, be many reasons a student may not be able to attend some or all classes in person. Students with concerns that may affect their ability to attend in-person classes during a pandemic should contact the Office of Disability Resources for Students as soon as possible. Other students may be exposed to or contract COVID-19 during the semester; anyone who has or thinks they may have COVID-19 should avoid coming to the Law School and may attend class remotely. All faculty are prepared to provide meaningful instruction with substantial interaction, even to students who are unable to attend in person.

Although this semester will be different in many respects, our commitment to you and your education has not and will not change. We look forward to seeing you in class – whether virtually or in person – soon.
