Taiwan faces the ever-increasing threat of invasion by China. The Taiwan Relations Act promises to safeguard the peace of the Taiwanese nation; however, it falls short of binding the United States into committing troops into battle. Given the ambiguous policy of assistance by the United States, a firmer stance and clearer policy in support of Taiwan independence and statehood is warranted.
