There is growing recognition that the legal profession can – and should – do more to provide more opportunities for professional development. The ABA Well-Being Toolkit for Lawyers and Legal Employers encourages programs that support lawyers’ personal and professional growth, motivation and optimal health across all sectors of life as a way to improve well-being, competence and client outcomes.
The business, education, and nonprofit sectors have been making substantial investments in professional development for decades. Many major corporations provide opportunities for leadership development, coaching, emotional intelligence, mindfulness meditation, exercise, office yoga, mental health care, and more. They have found that investing in the personal effectiveness of their people pays big dividends by increasing employee retention, improving job satisfaction and overall well-being, which yields better outcomes with clients and customers.
We are hearing from attorneys that they want more programs to help them develop both professionally and personally. To help meet this need, we have partnered with Judge Steve Hornsby and Cindy Pensoneau to offer a series of in-depth professional development courses. Here are a few comments from the first course that finished in March:
“This is an excellent course on mindful living and movement, stress management and how to get out of our own way. Steve and Cindy both have a deep understanding of and passion for this topic, and that’s evident throughout the course. I highly recommend the course and instructors.”
“I have felt better, lighter and encouraged after each session. I am going to strive to keep this solitude, peace and inner reflection with me during the week when I am in electronic connection mode. Many thanks to Steve and Cindy for an excellent program.”
“Appreciate you all so very much! This has been a really fabulous class, and I’ve been singing your praises – at a 6 foot distance of course. 😉 ”
The second course begins May 20, “Facing the Dragon: Building Resilience in the COVID-19 Crisis and Beyond”, which focuses on improving emotional intelligence, using mindfulness to face stress and fear, body and health practices to maximize the positive stress response and build resilience, and living into our best self.
We hope you will give serious consideration to taking part in this course, and encouraging it in your firm. Group rates available when four or more join from the same firm/organization.
Sincerely,
Anne Fritz
