Enter the Video Contest: Why Pro Bono Matters with $1000 cash prize

TN Supreme Court Access to Justice Commission is sponsoring its annual video contest for law students to increase participation in pro bono work and raise awareness of pro bono efforts, programs, and providers throughout TN. Participants in the 2019 law student video contest will create short videos discussing the topic of Why Pro Bono Matters and will compete against other video submissions for a $1,000 cash prize and the opportunity to be recognized by the Tennessee Supreme Court Access to Justice Commission at the TALS Equal Justice University 2019.

This year we are again requesting that each university provide at least one faculty/staff member to agree to view the videos produced by the law students at their respective schools and provide feedback. Students will be awarded extra points on their scoring if they utilize the services of the faculty/staff member.

The contest will formally kick off in April 2019, and we will accept video submissions from April 6th, 2019 (Help4TNDay) until April 30, 2019. There will be a $1,000 cash prize for the winners. The videos submitted will be used by the ATJ Commission in its various social media platforms. Please share and post the our promotional flyer as you see fit, which is available on the contest webpage here. You can also share last year’s winning video and photo of the 2018 winners from Belmont College of Law with Supreme Court Justices Connie Clark and Chief Justice Jeffrey Bivins here.

Like last year, participants in the 2019 video contest will be given guidance on possible topics, all of which will center on pro bono. This year we are encouraging students to partner with their peers, and we are specifically encouraging student organizations and student groups to submit videos on behalf of their student organizations. Law students are also encouraged to work with a local legal service provider and/or pro bono program if appropriate. Additional rules and contest information will appear on the video contest webpage here starting in March 2019.
