Dear Students
The Student Financial Aid Office is embarking on a new way of processing Summer aid!! We will review eligibility based on enrollment of at least half time – three (3) LAW credit hours. This means that our processing will be triggered by your Summer registration.
Summer eligibility is dependent on what you received in the (prior) Fall and Spring semesters, whether at The University of Memphis or at another institution. You may have already borrowed the yearly maximum unsubsidized loan of $20,500. Check your myMemphis account for this information.
If you did not borrow the maximum $20,500 unsubsidized loan between Fall 2017 and Spring 2018, we will OFFER your remaining eligibility. This means you will need to log in to your myMemphis account to accept what’s been offered, at which time you can also decide if you need to supplement it with the federal Direct Graduate PLUS, which is based on credit.
If you have already taken out the maximum unsubsidized loan, you can apply for the federal Direct Graduate PLUS loan. AFTER you register in at least three (3) LAW credit hours, go to https://studentloans.gov to apply. Make sure to select the 2017-2018 Award/Aid Year and list your loan period from May 2018 through July 2018. Your application will be sent to us electronically. Please allow our office 7 to 10 business days to process. Your myMemphis account will be updated accordingly, listing your Graduate PLUS Loan as an OFFER as well, regardless if you requested a specific amount.
Be aware that the Installment Payment Plan offered by our Bursar’s Office during Fall and Spring, is not available in the Summer. Tuition/fees information can be found on their website or you can call them at (901) 678-2712.
