COVID-19 Reporting Protocols
Dear Students,
As you know, in November, the law school became the direct contact point for law students reporting positive COVID tests, potential COVID exposures, and COVID symptoms (instead of main campus). Since then, you have reported exposure, symptoms, or positive COVID-19 tests directly to Dean Aden and/or Dean Wilson via email. This spring, you will continue to report that information directly to Dean Aden and Dean Wilson, but you will do so via a reporting form intended to streamline the process.
Memphis Law COVID-19 Exposure Reporting Form
Effective immediately, you should use the Memphis Law COVID-19 Exposure Reporting Form to report positive COVID-19 tests, potential COVID-19 exposures, and COVID-19 symptoms to the law school. Please bookmark this link so that you can easily find it if and when you need it.
This form will efficiently collect the information required to provide you with immediate guidance on whether you should isolate or quarantine, and if so, for how long based on your circumstances and our understanding of the CDC Guidelines. Dean Aden and Dean Wilson will review submissions and follow up or revise guidance, as appropriate..
Academic Information
If you are required to quarantine or isolate due to COVID-19 symptoms or exposure or a positive COVID-19 test, we will notify your professors of your quarantine or isolation period. Absences accrued during the quarantine or isolation period will be considered excused absences.
You should also contact your professors directly to develop a plan for any missed classes and assignments during that time.
Access to Class Recordings and Zoom
If you are required to quarantine or isolate due to COVID-19 symptoms or exposure or a positive COVID-19 test, the Law School’s IT team will provide you with access to class recordings, where possible. Andrew Hughes will contact you with information about how to access those class recordings.
Professors have discretion to permit you to participate in or observe class by Zoom during isolation; if you would like to do so, please discuss the availability of that option with your professors.
Medical Resources
The University provides free COVID-19 testing for students. You can find more information about testing on campus here.
Additionally, please remember that the Student Health Center is available to all University of Memphis students at no additional cost. The Student Health Center provides a range of medical care, including testing for COVID and other illnesses. You can make an appointment with the Student Health Center using the MyPatient Portal.
Please do not come to campus if you are sick, even if you do not have reason to believe you have COVID. Whether it’s COVID, the flu, or something else, as a community, we have a responsibility to the health and safety of others in our community.
